With the goal of promoting a genuine love of reading and getting everyone talking about books, RSS held itu2019s first Literacy Ou2019Lantern Contest coordinated by our full time Reading Specialist, Mrs. Haun. Families were invited to spark their imaginations and create a book character on a pumpkin or gourd. We are so impressed with all the fabulously creative submissions!
Congrats to the two winners (both from Kinder): Zoe Haberman with her "The Day the Crayons Came Home" and Kaitlyn Strom with "Donu2019t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus." The winners proudly marched as the u201CParade Marshals,u201D leading the schoolu2019s annual school Halloween parade.
The top staff member pick was second grade teacher, Mrs. Gilbert with her BFG creation. She has been reading this Roald Dahl story with her class, so it was a natural connection.
u201CIu2019m grateful for so many participants that took part in such a wonderful, worthwhile experience together with their families. I loved the time spent with my own girls who had a blast constructing Tacky the Penguin. They just beamed over our accomplishment together. The whole contest most definitely inspired others and got our whole school community talking about books!u201D - Mrs. Haun
