We celebrated our first World Read Aloud Day to emphasize the importance of reading aloud and sharing stories and to bring awareness to the 750 million who lack basic reading and writing skills.
* Open mic during lunch for students in grades 1-5 to share poems.
* Every class/teacher shared a Shel Silverstein poem from Light in the Attic.
* Students discussed and wrote about, “If you met someone who had never read a books and could choose one book to share with them, which book would it be? Why?”
* Some classes hosted their own “Poetry Jams,” held cross grade level “Reading Buddies,” performed "Reader's Theater," or had a guest reader share a story.
