What Happens When You Combine a Pumpkin With a Good Book! Richmond Street Elementary School has its second Literacy O’Lantern Contest in the books! Families were invited to spark their imaginations and create a book character on a pumpkin or gourd. Students have excitedly been crowding around the displayed pumpkins over the last week and a half and teachers cast their votes on October 29th. This year the two top winners resulted in a sibling sweep. Congrats to Shaiya Patel with her intricate Dragons Love Tacos, and Suri Patel with a beautiful Rainbow Fish. The winners proudly marched as the “Parade Marshals,” leading the school’s annual school Halloween parade. All students that participated received an award certificate for Rock ‘N Brews. The goal of the contest is to promote a genuine love of reading and to get our community talking about books. Each student that took the time to create a Literacy O’ Lantern certainly did just that!
