The RIPPLE Effect Part II: How Do I Talk to My Children About…?
Date: Monday, March 26 th , 2018
Time: 6:00pm – 7:30pm | Location: RSS Auditorium
Are you wondering about how to talk to your children about diverse topics such as race, gender,
culture, and more? What is a sensitive way to do it that is age-appropriate and comfortable for us as
parents?
Join us for Part Two of our Parent Seminar Series on how to teach our children about diversity at
home. We will begin with a recap of our previous seminar, and will delve into more practical tips and
strategies to discuss topics. Bring your questions and examples so we can process through how to
move into these conversations with more ease.
Our facilitator, Farzana Nayani, is a national speaker on Diversity & Inclusion, author, and RSS
parent. In partnership with Farzana, RSS has hosted a number of school-wide initiatives to foster
learning and conversation around cultivating the RIPPLE Effect at school, by being: “Respectful,
Inclusive, Positive, Proactive, Learning About Others, and Enjoying Differences”.
We hope to see you at this seminar to continue the dialogue!
To help us prepare for seminar, RSVPs are requested by calling the RSS office - but parents of all
ages are welcome to drop in and join. This is open to the entire ESUSD community with the
generous support of the RSS PTA. Childcare provided.

Date: Monday, March 26 th , 2018
Dear 4 th and 5 th Grade Parents,
Over the past year, we have been incorporating the ideas of cultivating
diversity and inclusion at RSS through a number of activities, including
parent seminars, teacher workshops, and student assemblies. The
school-wide theme, creating “The RIPPLE Effect” focuses on being
“Respectful, Inclusive, Positive, Proactive, Learning About Others, and
Enjoying Differences”.
We will continue this conversation specifically with our 4 th and 5 th grade students through assemblies
by grade level that will take place on Monday, March 26 th in the morning. We will be focusing on
“Words and Actions” and will talk about the respectful use of language and how to be inclusive to
others in order to further a positive and supportive community at RSS.
Our facilitator, Farzana Nayani, is a national speaker on Diversity & Inclusion, an author, and an RSS
parent. She will utilize an interactive approach through examples, storytelling, and dialogue to help
foster learning among our children.
