Intent to Return Survey

We are excited to have your student re-join us for another year with the El Segundo Unified School District. We are beginning to plan for the 2020-2021 academic school year and our fall classes now. It will help us in our planning if we know whether or not your child will be back with us for the 2020-2021 school year.

Please complete this online form for each of your children by Friday, April 3, 2020.

RE: ESUSD Moving to Online Instruction Next Week

Dear Families,

As ESUSD places highest priority on the health and safety of not only our students, but our community at large, we will be closing our campuses to students beginning Monday, March 16. We have thoughtfully reviewed all guidance from the Los Angeles County Office of Education, the LA County Department of Public Health, and California Department of Education and the Centers for Disease Control, we have determined that dismissal is the best option at this time to proactively protect the health of our students, staff, families and community. School dismissal allows for employees to remain at work to provide instruction remotely and students participate in alternative learning plans while at home, like Independent Study. The timing coincides with reports of two affected residents in surrounding cities. Please recognize that this is an ever-evolving situation that rapidly is changing by the hour. I anticipate additional legislative measures may also come into play soon.

Beginning Monday, March 16, teachers will provide instruction remotely during the dismissal for at least one week. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further communication if the dismissal will be extended. All school activities, events, and athletics are cancelled or postponed, and no groups, outside facility use, or public gatherings will occur on any of our campuses.

We recognize the importance of continuity of learning, and our teachers have all prepared to provide education remotely. Instruction may occur online via platforms such as PowerSchool Learning or Google Classroom, through online communication, phone calls, webcasts, or other methods. Teachers may also be providing paper-based tasks for students to complete at home. All teachers will communicate their instructional methods to families via email including ways for students to access content and submit work. During school today, March 13, teachers will also be providing instructions to students on accessing the learning. Special education teachers will provide remote supports so students may access instruction. If teacher plans require online work and your child does not have access to a device or WIFI, please communicate with your school's administration for support.

We understand that school dismissal is undoubtedly a significant challenge for our families, students, and staff and we seek to work through this unprecedented scenario with caution, patience and hope for the best outcome in all regards. We encourage you to stay informed about developments in relation to COVID-19 and we will continue to communicate any updates we receive. Our ESUSD team is committed to continuing to serve our students through alternative learning option. We believe strongly in taking any measures necessary to protect and support our community and appreciate your support in return.

Family Literacy/Book Fair Night!

Hosted by: PTA, Mrs. Haun, Mrs. Domer, Mrs. MacDonald, Ms. Varghese, Ms. Harvey, Ms. Pacheco, & Ms. Figone

*PTA Hosted Activities – BOOK FAIR IN THE LIBRARY (5:00-8pm)
Outdoor games, Food (cash only), crafts, and loads of family fun!

*SCIENCE LAB (5:00-7:30pm)
Free flow literacy stations with hands-on activities and games. Also "paws" to read with beloved Presley and Lincoln (trained therapy dogs).

Come enjoy fantastic storybooks! Three sessions offer different strategies and take-aways to implement at home. Limited to 12 families each session. EVERYONE WINS A PRIZE!
1) READER’S WORKSHOP, Grades 2-4, (5:15-5:45) – Led by Mrs. Pacheco and Ms. Figone

2) RETELLING BRACELET, Grades K-2, (6:00-6:30) – Led by Reading Specialist, Mrs. Haun

3) THINK MARKS, Grades 1-5, (6:45-7:15) –Led by Ms. Harvey

Participate in an interactive classroom experience targeting the writing process in an engaging way. Limited to 10 families each session.
