2108 Readathon Winner Celebrations

Congrats to Mrs. Voboril with MOST Minutes in the school - her class was awarded a Cold Stone Celebration. The TOP CLASSES from each grade level were rewarded with a Green Eggs and Ham Celebration!

I'm SO proud and honored!!!  Richmond Street School was honored with the Read Live School of the Year award.  Read-Live is a prominent, research-based intervention program for accelerating reading achievement.  I use it to provide targeted, differentiated reading support for students in grades 3-5.  On a whim, I submitted an application outlining how I implement it, evidence of growth, and video testimonials provided by third grade students. The award recognizes schools whose students have substantially improved their reading skills during the 2017-2018 school year.

There were 3 runner-ups and 10 honorable mentions from all over the US. Each of the winners demonstrated:

  • The school’s commitment to using Read Live with fidelity.
  • Students' growth in reading proficiency.
  • Positive changes in student attitudes and motivation.

As the grand prize winner, Richmond Street School received a trophy and $2,000 towards the company’s products.  Here is a link:

Improving Comprehension with Headsprout!

Interventions students in grades 3-5 have access to Headsprout – an online program that teaches reading comprehension.  Here is an example to check out: INFERENTIAL COMPREHENSION .  In this episode, established readers are taught to answer questions whose answer is not explicitly stated in text. The program shows students how to use clue words to deduce the correct answer.
