Principal's Message

August, 2020

Dear Richmond Street Families,

Welcome to Richmond Street School for the 2020-2021 school year! We are excited to reconnect with our students and families, although we will be beginning the school year online. We hope you are enjoying your final days of summer with family.

Our administrative team has been working very hard to develop a plan to connect with our students and families in an online format. The  2019-20 spring semester was one of uncertainty for everyone, and we want to assure you that this school opening will look and feel much different for our families. Teachers have participated in multiple trainings this summer to build their skills at Zoom, virtual instruction and assessment and new learning management systems. The learning management systems, Altitude Learning and SeeSaw, will streamline the home-classroom connection as students and their families will only need to go to one place for assignments, instruction and assessments. This will also allow teachers to push out tasks that are personalized based on the strengths and needs of individual students.

  • Grade TK/K-2: Seesaw
  • Grade 3-5:   Altitude

Video tutorials will be sent out in the coming week. Please check your email for these informative set up instructions. (Tip: For Seesaw (Gr. TK/K-2nd), please download the ‘Seesaw Family’ app on the App Store or Google Play Store; or bookmark a link on your computer at to receive notifications and real-time updates about posts from your child. This is different from what students will be logging into!)

We will be adhering to Covid guidelines so please wear a mask and prepare to socially distance. If you're unable to make it to either pickup dates, please email Phrai at to coordinate your pickup.

Device Distribution

Thank you for completing the device needs survey that was sent via email a few weeks ago. We have chromebooks ready for distribution for our 3rd-5th grade students. However, we regret to inform our families that the delivery for the TK/K-2nd Chromebook orders have been delayed. In the meantime, we will be providing those families in TK/K-2nd iPads to use until the Chromebooks arrive. Once they have been received at our district, we will send another email to all TK/K-2nd grade students for exchanging the iPads for the Chromebooks. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

As Richmond Street School is under construction, device distribution will be conducted outside the El Segundo High School library (640 Main Street), the walkway to the left of the main entrance to the high school.

Please use the link(s) below to sign up for your preferred time slot to pick up your device. When you arrive, please be sure that anyone over the age of 2 is wearing a mask, and please maintain proper social distance from others.

Please note that the time slot sign ups are only to help with crowd control and flow - we have enough devices, so please do not think that if you sign up for a later time you will not get a device.

Fall TLC Enrollment Application

The Learning Connection (TLC) child care program is opening up its Fall 2020 Enrollment Application to elementary families who need child care. The child care program will begin on Tuesday, September 8, 2020 and the times will be 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday at a cost of $1,200 a month per child.  This is the only option being offered for child care this fall semester. Unfortunately we can not offer half days of care or partial weekday attendance. This application is open to families whether you chose the full distant learning model or in-person hybrid learning model. Fall Child Care participants can expect to be notified of acceptance and SmartCare billing within the next week.

We want to thank you for your patience and understanding as we navigate how to best support our elementary school site families’ needs in this coming school year. As our school situation changes so will the support that TLC offers for your child care needs.
