Welcome to 5th Grade!
It is my pleasure to welcome you and your superhero child to fifth grade! This year promises to be filled with exciting learning experiences that are both positive and meaningful. As the year progresses, your child will develop more independence along with greater responsibilities in preparation for his or her transition to middle school. My goal is to have your child build solid skills in all academic areas as well as foster a love of learning and self-confidence. I look forward to our school year ahead!

Richmond Street School's Charity Fundraising Campaign
At Richmond Street School, we want to empower students to activate a lifelong desire for learning and to transform themselves and the world for the better. Our school was graciously provided two water bottle filling stations so that our children can access clean, crisp, refreshing water at any time of the day.
Many of us have no idea what it's like to be thirsty. We have plenty of water to drink - even the water in our toilets is clean!
But many people around the world don’t have that luxury. Every day, about 1,400 children die from diseases caused by unsafe water and poor sanitation. It doesn’t have to be that way. There are simple solutions like drilled wells, spring protections and BioSand filters that help provide clean water to communities around the world.
We started a fundraising campaign to help charity: water build these types of projects around the world, and we are hoping you will join us so that we can teach our children to not only spread kindness to each other, our school, and our community, but literally, to our world. We want to be worldwide bucket fillers!
Each classroom will be given a bucket in alignment with our whole school book club: "Have You Filled A Bucket Today?" We will be learning about how to be bucket fillers, not bucket dippers. We are launching this soft campaign to have students and our school community contribute towards this effort. It is not a competition. Just a few coins for the month of September towards our goal.
100% of the money will be used to build clean water projects, and when they’re complete, charity: water will send us photos and GPS coordinates so we can see the exact community we helped.
